Involuntary GoFundMe for Rays Baseball Stadium

The Tampa Bay Rays are expected to unveil a new $2.3 billion stadium deal as soon as next week, potentially asking for over $1 billion in public money. The proposed funding framework, to be released on March 18, 2026, could include $467 million from local sales tax, $270 million from lodging tax, and other bonds for the Hillsborough County site.

Key Details of the Proposed Stadium Project:

  • Total Cost: $2.3 Billion
  • Public Ask:  Billion (50% of total cost)
  • Timeline: A vote is expected on April 1, 2026, by the Hillsborough County Commission.
  • Location: The deal centers on a new ballpark on the Hillsborough Community College Dale Mabry campus.
  • Stadium Features: Preliminary plans feature a 30,000+ capacity, a retractable translucent roof, and sliding glass walls.

This new proposal arises as the team previously exited a $1.3 billion deal in St. Petersburg following hurricane damage to Tropicana Field, seeking a fresh start for a new stadium and surrounding entertainment district development.
