Here’s your watchlist … Third-quarter earnings season kicks off this week, with JPMorgan (JPM), BlackRock (BLK), Wells Fargo (WFC), and BNY Mellon (BNY) all reporting earnings this Friday, October 11. Tomorrow (Tuesday), PepsiCo (PEP) will report earnings coming off of mixed results from last quarter’s shareout. On Thursday, investors will hear from Delta (DAL) and Dominos Pizza (DPZ). Delta will be one to watch as the airline reports amid Southwest’s (LUV) ongoing activist investor fight and rumors—emphasis on rumors—that Spirit Airlines (SAVE) could be exploring bankruptcy.
We’re also getting a big inflation update this week. The BLS is slated to drop new Consumer Price Index (CPI) data on Thursday at 8:30 a.m. EST. In August, CPI rose 0.2%, which was in line with analysts’ expectations. Investors are looking to the September CPI numbers to see if inflation is indeed cooling, following last week’s much-better-than-expected jobs report
